Grief Counseling.

Eek! I have exams coming up, and it looks like I also need to figure out the how's of grief counseling. I could really use some advice. If anyone has time to help me out by discussing the issue, I'd appreciate it. I don't want to screw up.

Edit: There have been some great responses in the communities I posted my question to.
I will say that I'm a bit overwhelmed, I was pretty worked up when I posted, and i'm trying to get the guts to reply to the comments. Hopefully I can come back and talk to the people that offered advice. I have a lot to do, so this will be slow.

The counseling is for someone close to me who's father died recently, and whose mother is aging now.

The couseling services available to me through the school could be doubled and still be full up. I think they're probably booked up to may by now. They have drop in, but that entails competeing with 100s of other students for 30 slots, and sitting around for 3 hours in the waiting room full of desperate near suicidal people, with no guarantee of talking to someone.

My mission is to pass my exams, deal with my own load of personal problems, but somehow gain the knowledge and wisdom to help my friend through their rough period.
